USPS is implementing a new policy change to its first-class package delivery service.
Although some customers can expect to see delays in the delivery of their packages, the new rules won't have an effect on about 64% of first-class packages, the USPS says. This policy will primarily affect small packages and prescription drug orders.
The USPS says it wants to get more out of its extremely extensive ground network - which tends to be under-utilized - as opposed to relying so much on air. It is expected that this policy change will boost efficiency while cutting costs.
Currently, a package is considered late if it was delivered more than three days after it was sent.
With this new policy change, now packages will be considered on time if they are delivered within 4-5 days.
Changes take effect May 1st for first-class packages, and you should expect to experience delays in your deliveries as this policy change is rolled out. For more information, visit https://www.usps.com.
